The village of Talkeetna lies at the bottom of North America’s tallest mountain, Mount McKinley. It is located at the convergence of three rivers, the Susitna, Chulitna and Talkeetna. This amazing travel destination offers an amazing view of the Alaskan Mountain Range. Talkeetna is located 115 miles north of Anchorage not far off the Parks Highway. The area is sometimes also known as South Denali Park due to its location near the Southern border of both the National and State Parks.
This recreational paradise offers rafting, biking, hiking, camping, fishing and a staggering number of hunting opportunities.
Talkeetna is connected to the road and rail systems, so getting there is easy. It is most famous for its salmon fishing. Thousands of fishermen come each year to take advantage of the bountiful fishing.
The highlight of the summer tourist season is the annual Moose Dropping Festival. This amazing and fun festival features artists from all over Alaska. The artists come to the town and sell them at booths. Many performers show-off their singing, dancing and acting abilities during the many performances that take place during the festival.
Talkeetna’s airport is home to several Air Taxi companies. Many offer sightseeing trips via the air and some provide support for mountain climbers who decide to tackle Mount McKinley. The town is the primary staging area for climbers prior to beginning their Mount McKinley climbs. This amazing part of Alaska offers some of the best arial sightseeing trips in the entire state of Alaska.
This area of the Alaskan interior offers visitors the opportunity to encounter some true Alaskan flavor. Talkeetna offers number of pleasant and inexpensive lodging choices for travelers on a budget.
