At the base of Mount Juneau is the Alaskan capital Juneau. This capital city lies across the channel from Douglas Island. It is southeast of Anchorage near the US-Canada border.

The state’s top attraction, the Mendenhall Glacier, has an impressive face roughly 100 feet high and over half a mile wide. The U.S. Forest Service observatory in the Juneau area gives visitors information about glaciers and glacial movements.

The numerous glaciers near hiking trails are ideal for hikers of all skill levels. Many tourists view the scenery from the air on floatplanes and helicopters. Take one of the most famous forms of transportation, a dog sled. Wide range of boat rides is also perfect for those looking to take in the view and splendor of Juneau.

Many visitors to the Juneau area visit The Tongass National Forest. It is the largest national forest in the United States, covering 85 percent of Southeast Alaska.

Juneau provides easy entry to the Glacier Bay National Park, the Taku River, Tracy Arm Fjord Admiralty Island and Pack Creek Bear Preserve. The Juneau area is host to a wide-range of stunning and affordable wilderness resorts.
