Soldotna is situated on the Kenai River on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. It is nearly 150 miles south of Anchorage, at the junction of the Sterling and Kenai Spur Highways.

The Kenai Municipal Airport is located just 10 miles away from Soldotna. It offers a number of flights to airports around the area. There are four private landing strips in the area. The Sterling Highway provides access from Soldotna to Anchorage, the George Parks and the Alcan highways.

The city has more parks within its’ boundary than anywhere else in Alaska. Soldotna offers a staggering 2,800 feet of elevated boardwalk. For those who like camping, the city offers over 200 campsites in some of the most beautiful areas in Alaska.

For those who prefer to do their camping indoors, there are many local hotels and bed and breakfasts in the area. These establishments offer excellent accommodations for travelers with any size budget. There are also a number of restaurants offering a wide range of local cuisine. Salmon dishes in Alaska are the best in the world.

Winter temperatures in the Soldotna area range from 6 to 24 degrees. The summer temperatures are rather mild. They range from 45 to 66 degrees. The area can be wet at times, so plan ahead and bring a raincoat.

In 2004, Soldotna was voted the number one fishing spot in North America by Field & Stream Magazine. The Kenai River offer world class Chinook, Sockeye, Coho and Pink Salmon fishing.
